Tsumami zaiku is a traditional Japanese craft originated about 200 years ago during Edo. It is made from small square cut pieces of fabric that is pinched and folded into usually flowers.

These pieces are inspired by the "Kabukimono" that comes from the word "Kabuku" meaning "to slant" or "to deviate” and it is translated as “the crazy ones”. Kabukimono would dress in flamboyant clothing, combining vibrant colours, combining elements of European clothing with Kimono or even wearing kimono meant for women although they are men.

By creating the mdernized version of Tsumami zaiku, artist seeks to revive the spirit of "Kabukimono".
